.
I watched the debate the other night too, and I have to confess I had a very mixed reaction. I was very impressed by Senator McCain's opening remarks about what he would do regarding the housing crisis, but I was disappointed when he did not expand on his full economic plan. I've noticed in the recent Obama ads that he very clearly outlines his entire economic plan. I would like to see Senator McCain get off the usual rhetoric, and counter with more of the same. I agree with hockey mom and young conservative, who state that the time is past for the usual political mudslinging, and SPECIFICS as to what Senator MCain plans to do if we trust him with the Presidency. My husband James says it reminds him of the scenario in the American President, where the President's opponent in the campaign was essentially the only voice being heard, even when the President's advisors were begging him to respond forcefully. It was not until he did that things began to turn around. I think the same principle applies here. I greatly respect Senator MCain's record as a veteran and a war hero, and his years of experience in Washington. I also respect his willingness to stand firmly for what he believes is right, even if it costs his position among members of his own party. However, I do not think that these factors alone are enough to get him elected. His opponent is considerably younger, and very articulate. I think that this can put the Senator at a great disadvantage. It's all well and good to "speak softly and carry a big stick", but sometimes just as Our Lord overturned the moneychangers in the Temple, it's necessary to swing the stick! To me, this does not mean attacking his opponent's character, or questioning his past associations! Chances are we have all done or said things in our past that we later regret. To me it does mean standing up to Obama's attacks the way he stands up to opponents on the Senate floor! It means emphasizing his experience with the workings of government and foreign policy. It means coming up with a specific step by step plan for the country! I think the Senator was wrong to say that he could handle three major objectives like Social Security, health care, and the housing crisis all at once! While that's ambitious and commendable, to handle any one or even two of those at one time would be a daunting task! I think the Senator must speak in terms of SPECIFICS and PRIORITIES, and he must do so ASAP! I know for our family we must prioritize what gets paid every month. We are facing having to sell your house to avoid foreclosure, and a move across the country so that my husband can get promoted for his job. Either of which we are fully in favor of! But I don't think the debate was all bad. I think that while Senator Obama was talking to the camera, Senator MCain talked to the people, and was not afraid to touch them! I noticed that Senator Obama by contrast hung back, and made little or no contact with anyone! Now all Senator McCain needs to do is tell people in very SPECIFIC and uncertain terms what he intends to do, and he has the election won! By the way, Gov. Palin, you rock! FINALLY a woman who has not been brainwashed by all the feminist rhetoric, but is definitely strong and is not afraid to stand up for GOD and FAMILY! Thank you for choosing life for your son and your soon to be grandchild! I am a disabled mother of two beautiful, healthy young women and I wouldn't trade them for the world!

A Light Bulb Moment.....
In a recent news story, it was stated that some scienctists have discovered a way to harvest human stem cells without sacrificing embryos. I believe it was by taking stem cells from skin tissue. If I'm wrong please correct me. I find it astonishing that the scienctific community is just now catching on to what the pro-life movement has been saying all along! Because it has long been proven that stem cells harvested from umbilical cords for example, are of better quality than those taken from embryos. It seems to me that abortion advocates have lost one of the major arguments in favor of the procedure! Perhaps now more babies will be saved and allowed to grow up and fulfill their God-given destiny, instead of being sacrifices on the altar of the greater good, and one of them may turn out to have the cure for one of the diseases this stem cell research is trying so hard to eradicate!

Abortion and Birth Control
I wanted to take this opportunity to get a few things off my chest! I just got off the phone with a family member who told me that a former friend of hers informed her during an arguement that she considered abortion to be nothing more than another form of birth control. She went on to say that this same individual has had not one, not two, but SEVEN abortions! Being a devout, committed Catholic, the idea of even one abortion is unthinkable, but seven is beyond insanity! Especially given the fact that there are countless childless couples like my family member and her husband, who not only long for a child, but would make excellent parents! Meanwhile this bizarre individual has tossed away seven precious children, and the souls God breathed into them like so much garbage, without even giving them the chance to be born, and adopted into a family where they would be loved and cherished! We may only know at the final judgement, but this person could've been responsible for murdering, yes, I said MURDERING, the person who holds the cure for cancer, or could write the next great American classic! Who knows how may millions of children will never be brought into the world because of our selfishness, and how their absence will affect our future! It just goes to show how everything and everyone, from the unborn to the elderly have become disposable in our society! Whereas 100 years ago, having children was a sign of great status and success, it seems now that the reverse is true Now it seems that whoever has the most toys but the fewest children to share them with is declared the winner!
One last thought.....I told my family member that in my not so humble opinion, the surest form of birth control is not abortion, but to remain vertical! In other words, if you don't want to get pregnant, then don't sleep around! Have enough respect for yourself, and the children you may conceive to guard this most precious gift!

Desire for Control
I was struck today not by the comments of my friend Sister Pat, but by something that came after. One of the contributors to her community's newsletter stated that one of the reasons we cannot find peace in our walk with God is our desire to control. We expect everything and everyone around us to think, act and function according to our agenda. When they don't we proceed to make life miserable for everyone around us, and ultimately for ourselves. Because when the smoke clears and the dust settles, we are left with the realization that we've tried to deny a person's most basic freedom, the freedom to follow us or not, something God Himself would not do. Why? I think it comes down to to two words-pride and ego! The contributor went on to say that true peace comes from relinquishing control, and trusting that everything, even the stuff that hurts, or the stuff we don't like, ultimately comes from HIm!

A little about me
Hi everyone,
I just want to take a few minutes to introduce myself. I am a 48 year old, formerly single, formerly empty nester, and proud mother of three, whose empty nest is quickly becoming a boarding house! There are times I feel as if I am mother and foster mother to half the tri state area, and most of their animals too! The only ones that keep me sane are my very supportive husband, and my Lord and His Blessed mother, who are my soft place to fall when my husband and household are driving me crazy! I grew up around a lot of so called liberated women whose idea of freedom was to throw their husbands and families out the door, or leave themselves, and wander around til they found themselves. I have come to believe that true freedom is to know that my husband is there to support what I do. I know I couldn't do half of what I'm doing right now, just making sure that I have the resources to support whoever comes to the door, and still run a household and a business without my husband's love and support! Because of him, I have earned certificates in religous studies and youth ministry, and gone places I never would've gone alone! By the way, it's never like it is in the classroom!
